The Normandy High School International Thespian Society Troupe 837 will present, "The Face of Emmett Till," at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14. Performances will take place in the Little Theatre on the school's campus, 6701 St. Charles Rock Rd.
"The Face of Emmett Till" is the true life story of 14-year-old Emmett Till, who was brutally murdered in 1955 in Money, MS. Two white men accused Emmett of saying something to one of their wives, which in 1955 was taboo. Emmett was brutally beaten and thrown into the river. His body was later discovered and returned to his mother in Chicago. Mamie, Emmett's mother, contacted the Chicago Defender to make Emmett's story known. A long court battle ensued. This drama was co-written by Emmett's mother along with David Bar III, and gives her own personal report of Emmett's death and the court battle that helped spur the Civil Rights Movement.
Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $3 for students and $5 for adults. For further information, contact Kathy Gray or Camille Morgan at (314) 493-0600.
